Halsey Typography Portrait
In this assignment, I was instructed to create a typographic portrait utilizing text weight, size, kerning, and tracking to emulate values in the spectrum of shades between black and white.
Proficient use of Illustrator is showcased in this design, employing typography in varying sizes, weights, kerning, and tracking to establish values within the composition. The choices made demonstrate advanced skill and depth of knowledge in incorporating value, form, and texture. Value is strategically employed to create the portrait, using text variations for light and dark areas. Form guides text placement, determining where darker values are needed. Texture, notably in the hair, adds definition to the piece.
Extensive exploration and time investment in development are evident, particularly in replicating the textured braids in Halsey's hair using layers of bold, tightly kerned text. This showcases creative efforts and attention to detail.
Adherence to all given directions and assignment specifications is noted. The design not only followed but also improved upon these instructions through past critiques, showcasing a commitment to continuous improvement. The final design is presented as a high-resolution, color-accurate, and readable artifact. The meticulous use of typography to replicate hair texture and the overall polished presentation make it a critical portfolio piece.
